What do you do when your spouse gets jealous?

Respecting Your Spouse's Jealousy

Reader,

Let’s talk about jealousy in marriage.

Maybe your wife tells you, “I don’t like that woman.”

Or maybe your husband tells you, “I don’t trust that guy.”

Your first reaction may be, “That’s ridiculous.”

You may not see anything wrong with the relationship. You may think your spouse is being too sensitive. You may even believe their jealousy has nothing to do with what’s actually happening.

But here’s something we believe couples need to understand:

You don’t have to always see what your spouse sees to respect their perspective.

Respecting your spouse's perspective means you’re willing to listen. You’re willing to understand why they feel the way they feel.

And you’re willing to look at the situation and ask, “Is there something we need to change to protect our marriage?”

Could it be that your spouse is insecure? Maybe. But that doesn't absolve you of the responsibility to prioritize your spouse's needs.

And remember the jealousy is actually a righteous defense system for your marriage. God said He was jealous for His people. Jealousy is a passion for the people that belong to you. You and your spouse belong to each other and it's your right and responsibility to vocalize your concerns about a potential threat to your union.

There may be a person, relationship, conversation, or situation that has more access to you than it should. That’s why boundaries matter in marriage. Your spouse shouldn’t have to compete with somebody else for emotional access, attention, or influence.

Protecting your marriage means paying attention to what affects your spouse, even when you don’t see it the same way.

If you and your spouse are struggling with boundaries, or another issue that keeps creating conflict in your marriage, sometimes you need an outside perspective.

That’s one of the reasons we offer private marriage coaching.

In a one-hour virtual session, we can sit down with you and your spouse, listen to what’s actually happening, and help you identify the heart of the issue. We’ll help you look at the situation through the framework of communication, agreement, trust, forgiveness, boundaries, intimacy, and submission so you can understand what needs to change and what steps you can take together.

You don’t have to commit to a long-term program. Private coaching is pay-as-you-go, so you can book one session around the specific issue you’re facing and decide what kind of support you need from there.

Private Marriage Coaching is $75 for a one-hour virtual session.

If you and your spouse know there’s something you need to work through, we’d love to sit down with you.

Schedule your private marriage coaching session with us today.
