Reader,
There is a conversation many married couples have at some point.
The husband says:
“I work hard for this family. I provide. I pay the bills. I make sure you have what you need. What more do you want?”
And the wife says:
“I appreciate all of that. I just want you.”
That conversation can be very painful.
Providing for your family matters. Working hard matters. Taking responsibility matters.
But your spouse needs something those things cannot replace.
Your time, attention, and presence.
You can be physically sitting in the same house while your mind is still at work. You can be answering emails, taking calls and thinking about everything you need to do tomorrow.
From your perspective, you may be being responsible.
From your spouse’s perspective, they may be wondering, “When do I get my husband? When do I get my wife?”
That is why this question matters:
What’s the point of having everything if we’re losing our marriage?
Marriage is more than building a life together. It is also sharing that life with each other.
If your spouse told you, “I need more of you,” what do you think they would be asking for?
