Reader,
There are moments in marriage when you and your spouse are in a disagreement and your spouse says something that hurts you, and your first thought is, “They need to understand what they just did.”
So, you take up arms to defend yourself. Then the conversation becomes less about solving the problem and more about proving who is right.
But what if your spouse is responding from a place of hurt?
What if there are wounds, broken places, or pain underneath the reaction you are seeing?
What if in a heated moment like this, you are called to be an agent of healing to your spouse?
Now, you are NOT the healer. Jesus is. And you cannot make your spouse change. You cannot fix everything that is broken inside of them.
What you can do is let your relationship with Jesus fill you with grace and forgiveness. When you are full of what God has given you, you have something to give when your spouse comes up short.
This isn't a catchall for abuse. It means that when conflict comes, your goal is bigger than proving your point.
You are called to be a channel of God’s love and grace to the person you married.
That starts with asking, “How can I respond to my spouse from what God has already poured into me?”
If you and your spouse need help learning how to handle conflict, communicate better, and build a stronger marriage, we created the Master Your Marriage Challenge to help you work through these areas together.
This Challenge is designed to walk you through the laws of communication, trust, intimacy and vision.
